Slow and steady…

Two days after returning home (5 days, post-splenectomy), Cat’s sedation haze has finally worn off. The “spark” is back in her eyes, and her tail now wags almost as if nothing has happened. The pain is the only thing restraining her, and as soon as that fades, I know that making her take it easy during this time is going to be a challenge. (Challenge gladly accepted!!) The only thing she’s taking for pain, at this point, is acetaminophen. The pain tolerance of dogs is remarkable.

She hasn’t had a big appetite but the Zofran and Cerenia (for nausea & inappetence) have helped. Of course, she gets whatever kind of food she’ll eat, & her choice is boiled chicken & cookie snacks.

She’s also taking Sotalol — an antiarrhythmic — because her irregular heartbeat (which she’d had prior, albeit mildly) has worsened…probably as a result of her deterioration on the day of the rupture while Triangle Veterinary Referral Hospital dragged their feet, doing nothing for her, before we were able to get her to NC State. 

I’m finally feeling better about her pulling through this. It’s just that 10-day-wait for the diagnosis that’s hanging over our heads.
