Day 18, Post-Spleen Rupture/Splenectomy
This was our first official “treatment option appointment.”
With limited research done so far, I had high hopes for this consult, thinking there must be better options — if not breakthroughs — I hadn’t yet uncovered. Plus, with the clock ticking, this appointment with the oncology team at NC State Veterinary Hospital couldn’t come soon enough.
In sum…I was disappointed to realize I already knew most of what they shared about standard of care: Basically, still the same ole same ole as 45 years ago. No new innovative approaches. Just the same things outlined in my last post. And they didn’t appear too enthusiastic over several of the things I’d learned while researching. I image, though, that client freelancing in expert territory is frowned on, in general — kinda telling your own doc that you diagnosed yourself with the flu after from reading WebMD.
Anyhow, even in the face of so much urgency, overwhelmed and uncertain — and with our hope for innovation in this space now dulled — we told the oncology team that we’d need more time before committing to a plan.
The following day — one month post-surgery & finally cleared for showers (AND swimming!) — Cat spends an afternoon in a friend’s pool doing what loves: anything it takes to get her ball.
